The wind is howling and the snow is swirling and the cats are going absolutely crazy. They don't want to be outside, at least not in the snow. Fred has finally given up checking the different doors because it is winter outside every stinkin' one of them. He is content to curl up in front of the fireplace and dream about summer. He and Ramses are on constant squirrel patrol. Those darned squirrels love to taunt them from the fence and tree outside the living room windows. It's great fun for them to chatter at the cats from the safety of outside. For my part, I enjoy watching the little fellows wrestle sunflower heads off the branches and carry them back to their nests. Last fall, my brother Joel gathered sunflower heads that hadn't gone through the combine for whatever reason and gave me a couple boxes of them. I share the largesse with the squirrels and birds and an occasional rabbit. Once in a while a pheasant rooster comes to call, as well. He looks huge in my little apple tree.
Today, I am going to put borders on a couple quilt tops that will go in my sample suitcase and get a top and backing ready to mail to Sandy Turner, the Quilter in the Big Blue House. She volunteered to get a couple of them quilted for me and I am going to take her up on that! She will showcase her style and quilting gifts and I will have finished quilts to show my shops. I have most of the current crop of samples earmarked for hospice donations when they come out of my bag.
When I finish the borders on the three quilts that need them, I am going to put together a stack and whack top I started last year (or the year before, hard to remember with class samples) and get the rest of my goodies together for the retreat at Sander's in Aberdeen this coming weekend. I LOVE sewing with that crew! We had so much fun at the last retreat, I signed up immediately to do the next one, then Danielle invited me to teach, so I have a purpose (and a good reason to get away and sew). I am enjoying thinking about which projects I am going to take along to work on this weekend. Oh the fun we will have! I think I will take a birthday cake along for myself, since my birthday is next Tuesday.
This seems like a great day to get projects done, so I'm going to get after them! Everyone, enjoy your day!
